Spring 2008

• Professor Gu Lefu's "Traditional Chinese Art" class will begin on 18 March 2008.
  
  World-renowned artist Mr. Gu Lefu have taught art in China at Nanjing Normal University, Tibet University, and also in the United States at Union College and the College of Saint Rose.
  His painting "Plum in Snow" (Chinese brush painting) was presented as a gift to the Italian government in 1980 by the visiting delegation of the Chinese government. His art works won him a lot of awards in China. His works have also been on exhibition in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and other domestic and foreign art exhibitions.
  
  We are extremely fortunate to have Mr. Gu as a teacher, and students will gain much from his classes, including a deep comprehension of Chinese culture and art.

  Professor Gu Lefu will open the Spring Traditional Chinese Painting Class on 18 March. Classes will be on Tuesdays, from 6:30-8:30. Please come to the CCC Building to attend his classes. Anyone who is interested are encouraged to attend, and if you have any questions, please call 489-4427.
• The 2008 9th Annual World Chinese Essay Competition Rules and Summeries (Xu Peizhen)

• On 14 March and 16 March, students will be taking the SAT Subject Test: Chinese with Listening MOCK Exam at the CCC Building.

• Due to the approaching snow storm, the North Colonie Independent Central School District has decided to close the Shaker Junior High School building this coming Sunday (12/16). Therefore, our double session of Chinese School on this Sunday is CANCELLED! The Chinese School administration has decided to open on December 30 (Sunday) to make up all planned activities including final exam, pot luck lunch and school meeting/ holiday performance.

• It gives our school great pride to announce that two works of our Grade 9 student Jacqueline Hsia, who received first prize at the "8th Annual Elementary International Chinese Essay Contest", will be featured in the "Qu Wei Han Yu" magazine. (.DOC)

Spring 2007

• The 2007 Chinese School Art Show has concluded. You may view the winning pieces of artwork by clicking here.

• End of School Year: The end of school year 2006-07 is approaching. The semester's last day is May 13, 2007. This is a double session school day. The agenda is as follows:

   

  10:00 am	Classes begin
  11:45 am	General meeting at cafeteria. (All parents are invited.)
  12:00 am	School Annual Pot Luck Lunch (Bring your best dish to share.) The school will provide beverages, water, paper cups, plates and napkins.
  1:00 am	School Sports Meet (The fun part begins - rain or shine.)
  3:00 am	School closes

• Arts and Crafts Class Re-opened at Chinese School: Chinese School has re-opened its arts and crafts class for the third period in Chinese School for the remaining weeks of this semester. Ms. Lu Chen will again be the instructor. She taught the same class last semester and received a very high appraisal from parents. At the request of school parents, the school has decided to open this class for the five remaining weeks. The fee is $20 per student. The school do not encourage a student transfer from other culture class in school. However, if parents insist, they may come to the school registration desk and inform school administration. Thank you.

Fall 2006

• Photographs are now available from the 2006 Summer Program, Halloween Event and a recent Staff Meeting.

• Halloween Announcement, Plans for Last Day (Peisheng Zhao) - Please read the linked document to learn about the plans for a Halloween celebration (10/29) and the schedule for the last day of school (12/17).

• Story Telling Event will take place from 2-3 pm on 11/12 and 11/19 in Auditorium of the Shaker Junior High School.

  Teachers: If you teach the language class grade 4 and lower, please help your students to choose a story, and advise students to prepare the presentation, arrange rehearsal, and send students to final competition. To save time, we encourage group presentation. Please provide 1) the names of the participating students and 2) the selected story topic to Vice Principal Shao Lin before or by 10/29.

• Congratulations to all 6th International Overseas Chinese Student Essay Contest award winners! The following students and teachers have received award certifications from the essay competition committee:
  First Prize winner:  Hudson Duan and his teacher, Sui Duan: "游泳"

• School will organize an Art Show this semester.  Please submit your best art work (painting or drawing, any style) for competition.  All age children and adults are welcome to participate.  The deadline for submission is 11/20/05.

• About Chinese school parent meeting

• School Handbook:

  School will distribute 2005 – 2006 School Handbook to every school family on 10/16. Every parent or student should read through the handbook.

• Fire Drill:

  There will be a fire drill in the month of Oct. Teachers will talk about the evacuation procedures in their classrooms. Anyone who is in the school on that day should all follow the school Emergency/Fire Evacuation Procedures. We will post the procedures on the announcement board, and you can also find it in School Handbook.

• Chinese School News:          Weiqing Chen  10/01/05

• 2005 fall semester starts on Sunday, Sept. 11, at Shaker Junior High School in Latham. Language classes are 1:10 - 3:00pm and culture classes are 3:10 - 4:00pm.

• SAT Chinese Mock Exam is scheduled for students of grades 8 and up during regular class periods on March 6th. Duan Sui, Dong Yin and Guo Lili will be in charge of administering and monitoring the exam.  SAT Chinese Mock exam scores are required for graduation from the Chinese Schools. Students who have already taken the official SAT II Chinese Exam are not required to take the mock exam. 

• Congratulations to all four Chinese School students who took the SAT II Chinese Exam in November 2004.  They all scored 750 or higher out of a maximum score of 800. Chen Zhi scored 800, Qiao An 790, Qiao Jin 770, and Gu Lin 750. Congratulations to their teachers, Wang Mingxia and Dong Yin. The high level of achievement by these students is a good indication of the high standards of the Chinese language and cultural instruction of the CCC Chinese School, the high quality of the teachers, and the commitment and hard work of the individual students.  (A message from Principal Xu Ming )
